Facebook Privacy Settings

Facebook definitely allows you to easily communicate with others, but if you’re not careful, certain information you would like to remain private can be exposed. Here we take a look at locking down your profile, and how to avoid other annoyances.

Keep it Private

Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with friends, family and other contacts online. It’s also a great place to spread personal information, pictures, and other data to everyone if you don’t use the proper settings. The first thing you want to do is change default settings under the Privacy Settings.

Take the time to go through each of the privacy sections and make the appropriate choices for your profile.

Go through each section to adjust who can see your information. Of course showing it to everyone will be the least private.

Make sure to go through the settings for both Basic and Contact information.

If you choose a custom setting you can select who sees it and even block out specific users (like your crazy ex).

Control what information is on your wall, and what posts to your friend’s wall.

Control what other people can see about you in searches.

If there are certain users you don’t want to be able to contact you then you can put them in the block list.

Avoid Quizzes and Other Snooping Apps

You might be enticed to take the multitude of quizzes and games on Facebook because you’re bored or other friends have recommended them. They can however, be aggressive data miners. So when you’re taking a quiz to find out “Who is your Celebrity Twin” the developers of those quizzes are gathering your personal data.

It’s not a secret that your information is being shared through Facebook applications. If you go into the Applications overview under Privacy settings, it states how apps interact with your data. Here are a few of the items in the privacy statement.

“When you authorize an application, it will be able to access any information associated with your account that it requires to work.”
“When a friend of yours visits an application or authorizes it, the information that the application can access includes your friend’s friend list and information about the people on that list.”
“If you interact with an application that has been restricted to users of a certain age and/or country without explicitly authorizing the application, the application might be able to infer your approximate birth date or location because you were able to access the application.”

Under the Privacy section and Application Settings you can control what types of information can be seen through apps. If you don’t want anything shared select that option at the bottom.

With Facebook being a central hub of social activity, you might have co-workers, supervisors, or the head boss as a contact. If you are playing games on company time, make sure you don’t get busted on Facebook. Under the same apps privacy page we were at above, scroll down a bit further and check the box under Beacon Websites. A Beacon Site where you play a game needs to be an affiliate of Facebook, but if you aren’t sure, you might want to check this box to be safe.

Conclusion

Facebook can be a lot of fun and is a great place to keep in touch with others, but by default it shares a lot of information that you might want to remain private. These steps should help you out in protecting your privacy, and avoiding potentially embarrassing or awkward situations.

The Future of Android Phones

The age of the Android phone is fast dawning... and most of the applications are freely available, finally some decent ammo to wipe the smug smile on the face of his iFriends. Android phones have feature-rich applications that are not included in other mobile phones, and are ready to take on the market. The best part of Android is that you have a number of options with you, and not only some of them. An interesting feature of the Android phones that offer multiple levels of volume for the various functions of the phone.
The system, developed by Google Android, is a manufacturer of mobile phones to help compete with Apple's iPhone. The Android is seen as strong competition from Apple and so many cell phone companies are able to offer smart phones like the people in the market to your current phone. Upgrade
something more intelligent and competent. What do you need from your phone. It's a good question to consider when it comes to mobile phone users is for an update. Originally, the sole purpose of owning a mobile phone was. Since the cell phone tour, people began to want to take Photos, text messages, listen to music and Internet access. You can do all this and much more if you choose a smartphone. Now you can play Games on their mobile phone, weather and a series of activities, and make calls. Before selecting one of the Android phones it should be considered what basically you are looking out in a phone.
If you are considering buying a new phone, here are some of the best options to Android phones. Best Android phones are as good as the other Smartphones on the market. The reason is that several mobile phone manufacturers have adopted the Android operating system on their phones. It is possible not noticed, but the fact is that Google's Android phones are all over the cell phone market. As one of the best phones available with Android, the HTC Hero has made a lot of hype. This entry is made for the price conscious buyer who wants all mobile the perks an Android phone do not pay dollars more. Another option for mobile phones running the Android software is BETouch Acer E400. The company Acer install its own user interface connected to the system and also installed GPS Android, 600 MHz processor and Wi-Fi. A Android phones on the market first is the LG MaxGW620 InTouch. This phone is powererd from Android 2.
It is a business, while Android kicks WIN mobile in the teeth, &, a division of the open mobile advertising if a viable business because it can not expect Google stores Gettig in a search application in all places and from any phone. One of them is the Google marketplace where thousands of applications for mobile running the operating system Android than T-Mobile G1 and the myTouch T-Mobile with Google. Android users are waiting months after the first announcement to receive Pandora Mobile App for Android. In fact, many people complain that there is absolutely no competition for Android phones in the mobile Market. An important aspect of owning a mobile phone is Android Marketplace mobile applications, with thousands of requests to choose. If you are a parent, and are concerned and monitor the activities of your children, to protect cell phones and other sexting Mobi dangers stealth, then parental control software is for you. The launch of Android, the Google mobile operating system in virtually all areas of the market as "beginner is published up to and including the super-power Smartphones. Since Android has increased, has the Google mobile operating system used in virtually all market segments appear, including high beginners and the end Phones. Look at it, the Android phones can now be purchased almost everywhere. As Android, the mobile operating system designed by Google appeared in almost every conceivable niche, from "Rookie" to and including the super-smart phones. The Rough Guide Slick bag Phone reveals the secrets of this operating system back and forth, including models from Motorola, HTC, Samsung and many others. It is only by tradition, Android phone makes Skype instant messaging, voice and video calls worldwide via Skype. I love all the functions of Android, but UMA only tops, especially when I get home, I get off the frequency with which T-Mobile does not penetrate the walls of the building may have.
In addition to technical issues, Google has many areas that prior to any serious threat to address, as a substitute for a weight providing music Android iTunes smartphone battle. However, since the reach of Google Android as a free open-source operating system that reduces the value of acquisitions Palm Goal. I've never used an Android phone, and I have heard bad things about it, like Google uses the data for advertising, but I think it's a step towards a universal platform for open-source smartphone. The idea that Google will experience the same phenomenon in the store request U.S. dollars ridiculous. The iPhone uses a lot of Google applications and search in Google there is no difference in their pursuit of your surfing habits. The only way to compete with Apple continues to reinvent the phone... to come rather than an incorrect version of the iPhone is slightly up in the same family (the Android and it is in essence), Google, that should come with a feature that everyone that enough to leave their iPhone for. Apple basically skimming the high-margin customers with valuable, Blackberry is still very popular in the society (and blackberry sell more servers, the real interest) and Android, will take over the rest of the smartphone market at $49 - remember that Google gets nothing for all sold Android now and Apple earns $200 - $300 for each iPhone sold without iTunes... that's the difference.
Their phones are feature-rich applications that are not included in other mobile phones with Android, but also applications, the Android to take mobile phones market.

Android Vs iPhone For Enterprise - What to Consider

As much discussed, there are IT issues with iPhone and Android deployments in the Enterprise. We're comparing these two phones because unlike Blackberry devices, the iPhone and Android are consumer devices first. Blackberry has always courted the enterprise and today offers their Blackberry Enterprise Server for managing Blackberry devices in the Enterprise while iPhone and Android have entered the Enterprise, at least initially, through the backdoor as individual consumers brought in their personal devices to connect to corporate resources.
So, if you are IT and you're being asked to make recommendations on which devices your users should use, you also need to figure out how to support them. Should you recommend iPhone? Android? And how to manage them once you have them?
Operating Systems and Software Distribution
Let's start by comparing the two operating systems and the software distribution systems. iPhone OS is a closed system, but has a robust SDK, thousands of applications, and only two ways to get applications on the device: Through the iTunes App Store or through a distribution provisioning profile that allows signed applications to be installed on a device. Each application has to be installed at the endpoint individually; there is no way to push applications to devices. However because every app is subject to Apple's approval process or your signed certificate, the iPhone has remained malware free.
Android is on the other hand is an open source OS, but with an equally strong SDK, and a growing list of developers and available applications that are easy to get on the device. There are multiple ways to get applications on the device, signed and unsigned, and as a result there have been reports of malware targeting Android devices. This has opened a market opportunity for 3rd parties to provide software management, anti-malware, and device management services targeted at Android.
Devices and Variety of Features
On the device side, to date there are a limited number of iPhone devices, which physically are almost identical. This makes support a little more straightforward, whereas Android, because of its good economics for device manufacturers (i.e. "free"), comes in a rapidly widening variety. You can get them with keyboard, keyboard-less, different screen sizes, feature sets, etc. This can be a challenge to support.
Networks and Carriers
Related to the variety of devices, Android is available, or soon will be on all major carriers. iPhone users must use AT&T, at least for now. For the multi-campus enterprise, a single provider may just not work for all potential users. And then, what happens when your user travels to another country?
What Next?
Blackberry has several OS5 devices out, Nokia is coming out with more Maemo/MeeGo devices, and Microsoft has previewed its Windows Mobile7 that will be out later this year. Recently, reports have come out showing that the velocity of Android entering the marketplace exceeds the initial surge of the iPhone. (Android outsold the iPhone in the first 74 days, or the time for the iPhone to hit the 1 million mark).
Android is clearly making in-roads into the enterprise (for recent data, look at the " Mobile Worker Report "). Third parties, such as iPass, are planning to support Android. Apple is not about to willing cede any marketshare, so we anticipate new devices and new versions of their OS this year.
This is going to be a tremendous year for mobile devices, which means a busy year in corporate IT.
iPass changes the economics of enterprise mobility and revolutionizes the connectivity experience. At iPass we strive to be the voice of the enterprise in the mobility space. We provide services that simply, smartly and openly facilitate access from any device on any network. Yueyue, Chinese toddler struck in hit-and-run, reported brain dead

Yueyue, Chinese toddler struck in hit-and-run, reported brain dead

A nurse takes care of a two-year-old girl Yueyue in a hospital in Guangzhou Sunday. (AP)
A Chinese toddler who was ignored by 18 passersby and left in the street after she was run over twice is now brain dead, doctors said Wednesday.
A state-run paper China Daily, however, is still confidently reporting that Yueyue is alive. Her “blood pressure and heart beat shows signs of stability,” their most recent story reads.
Is it possible that China’s censors are at work? It’s unclear, as state-run news agency Xinhua is reporting her death.
Either way, Yueyue’s story does not look good for the government.
The seven excruciatingly long minutes in which 18 people decide not to help a bleeding two-year-old girl lying in the road make China look like anything but the “harmonious society” President Hu Jintao has envisioned.
Watch the video below. (WARNING: Graphic images inside.)
Yueyue is also not seeing any kind of miraculous turnaround, like the one China was able to celebrate for Xiang Weiyi, a toddler who survived the fatal bullet train crash in July and just started to walk again. (Watch a video of Weiyi in the the train five minutes before the fatal crashhere.)
Instead, Yueyue is now “in a deep coma and clinically brain dead,” according to doctors quoted by Xinhua. Yueyue’s parents are facing the decision about whether to turn off the life support machine that is keeping her alive.
There may be one similarity between the hit-and-run and the bullet train crash, however, and that is the media crackdown their cases may have inspired.
After reporters began aggressively covering the July train crash, which killed at least 40 people, government censors demanded the media stop writing about it. Most newspapers soon switched to upbeat reporting on other stories.
A commenter on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, wrote at the time: “Why have the people been robbed of the right to know? How long do they want to hide. ... We won't accept being treated like idiots.”
In Yueyue’s case, a media crackdown seems possible because of the legions of people calling for better legal protection for Good Samaritans. A prevalent fear in the country is that those who help the injured will be blamed for the injuries. Much of this has to do with a 2006 case in which a man who helped an elderly woman to the hospital was dragged to court by her family and made to pay a large share of her medical bills.
Conflicting reports about Yueyue support the idea that censorship of Yueyue’s story has already begun.
There are the conflicting reports on China Daily and Xinhua, two agencies controlled by the government, about whether or not Yueyue is alive.
There is also China Daily’s story Tuesday, in which it was reported the drivers who hit Yueyue had not seen her on the road, and were sorry for their mistake. The Shanghaiist blog, reported a totally different story the same day, writing that one of the drivers had admitted to trying to escape before anyone saw him and attempted to bribe Yueyue’s father to stay quiet.
China Daily also reported that the many passersby hadn’t noticed Yueyue lying on the street, while the video makes it very clear at least some of them did.
As after the July train crash, if government censors are making an attempt to silence information about Yueyue, they aren’t doing a very good job.
Lu Yuegang, a former investigative reporter for the Party-run China Youth Daily, told Reuters back in July: “These days, efforts to seal off the flow of opinion can't work like it did before.”
